From September 15th through October 15th, an interactive public installation is coming near The Cut, a sub-street level, open-air green space that runs parallel to Callowhill Street from North Broad Street to behind the Rodin Museum. The project will be installed along the 18th street pedestrian bridge that traverses the Cut. Eto Otitigbe (eo Studio), in collaboration with Asian Arts Initiative and 2022 Artists-in-Residence Dr. Ashley Gripper and Sonia Galiber (of Land Based Jawns and Soil Generation), is developing an immersive mixed reality project called Invasive Species. The project invites visitors to use mixed reality to cross-pollinate the Cut’s diverse plant life with narratives about cultural and physical migration. Invasive Species also includes sound sculptures that will be temporarily installed around the Cut. Throughout the project, eo Studio, Sonia, and Ashley will engage community members to collect personal narratives and migration stories; some of which will be incorporated into the final performance.
An Urban Cypher performances will be presented on October 7th and 8th at the Community College Garage. Details will be announced shortly; admission is free and open to all.
