Philadelphia based furniture designer and fabricator, Laura Bertapelle, is a multimedia artist whose artistic interest originated in the ceramic arts in 2002. Since graduating from Rhode Island School of Design, her material explorations have expanded to include glass, wood, metal and more.
Investigating the untapped properties and capabilities of familiar materials is core to her design process. By expanding her library, she can understand how materials relate to one another through their individual attributes, allowing her to use those similarities to inspire new processes.
Through experimentation, she explores processes that expand the material's properties beyond their typical use, working to seamlessly integrate material and process to achieve a final form that transcends the limits of what is known.
